The past six months have been a whirlwind of activity at Spirit Reins with new staff joining our team, new horses joining our herd and new facilities being built! We have significantly increased our ability to provide mental health therapy to children and families impacted by neglect, abuse and other forms of trauma -- reducing our waiting list from over 100 families to less than 20 families. We added a new covered round pen so therapy is not interrupted by inclement weather. And we added a group therapy space to expand our program offerings for youth and parents. We still have work to do and more big plans in 2018 but we're making real progress.

Impact Statement

As the nation's health care system moves slowly towards a value-based care approach, Spirit Reins is uniquely positioned to provide meaningful and effective mental health care interventions, to build resilience. In building resilience, we give families the ability to adapt and cope with stress in a way that helps them deal with similar situations in the future. By partnering with us, you will be helping to dramatically change the life paths of children and their families impacted by ACEs through effective intervention at a crucial stage in their lives. Children will and have thrived because they are empowered with the skills necessary to grow into happy, successful adults, able to make positive contributions to their communities. Their families and parents are no longer stressed by raising and caring for a child with serious emotional and behavioral health concerns--stress that takes its toll on marriages, jobs, health and finances. The community will benefit from fewer tax dollars being spent to discipline, support, and sustain these children in the education, welfare, and justice systems, and we all will benefit from a more educated, employable, and healthy population now and in the future.

"Before I came to Spirit Reins, the world always seemed like a not very happy place, and then when I came here it really lightened up a lot. It is nice to see part of the world differently than I thought." -Adopted Child, age 9

"Our child has been in counseling since he was two years old with little positive effect. In the six weeks he's been in counseling at Spirit Reins, we've seen more change and progress than ever before - changes in self-esteem, self-reliance, self-awareness, and self-control." -Parent
