The mission of Manos de Cristo is to empower low-income individuals with a loving hand of assistance and without regard to age, gender, race, or religious preference. Manos de Cristo promotes dignity and self-reliance by meeting basic needs with food and clothing, providing essential oral care, and furthering educational development.
Dental Center: Manos continues to be one of the few low-cost dental centers in Austin, offering oral health care services to both under and un-insured individuals. The Dental Center is committed to providing high quality, low cost dental care to relieve pain and prevent financially crippling medical bills. In order to accommodate more patients, the Dental Center extended its hours of service by 26 hours per week and served over 17,000 patients in 2017!
Emergency Food & Clothing Center: Nearly 9,000 individuals sought assistance from our emergency food pantry and clothes closet. We collaborated with local area churches who donated 180 bags of groceries, which totaled to 380 pounds of food! These partnerships have resulted in the visitors of our Food Pantry to have access to quality food products such as fresh fruits and vegetables that are otherwise a luxury. Our Food and Clothing Center is truly for those in need of emergency assistance and can only be accessed once every three months to allow us to serve as many people as possible.
Back-to-School Program: Manos' annual Back-to-School program serves over 2,000 kids! Every summer, Manos distributes backpacks, grade appropriate school supplies, two sets of new clothing: socks, undergarments, pants, shorts and shirts to low-income children whose parents struggle to prepare them for the school year. Students participate in a "shopping day" with hundreds of volunteers to pick out their own items in preparation for the upcoming school year.
Education Center: For the third year in a row, the Manos Education program has expanded. In 2017 we offered four new morning classes at our satellite location. This year, we are excited to report we will be offering a new GED in Spanish program starting March 19th. We continue to offer ESL, Computer, Citizenship and Spanish Literacy classes at our main campus. With your help, we can keep expanding and teaching more adult learners.
With your support through Amplify Austin, we can make sure no one is ever turned away for service. Thank you in advance for helping to make your community a happier, healthier place to live!
Impact StatementOral Health: Manos provides dental care at highly discounted rates to over 17,000 individuals each year who are ineligible for government assistance or who would otherwise go without treatment.
Education: Manos provides English as a Second Language (ESL), Computer Literacy/Workplace Training Skills, Adult Basic Education in Spanish, and Citizenship Preparation classes to over 800 students per year in order to empower adult students and improve their lives and financial stability. Classes are taught primarily by trained volunteers.
Basic Needs: Manos provides a food pantry and clothes closet in order to meet our clients' immediate basic needs and stretch their household budgets. More than 8,100 seniors, adults and children were served last year.
Back-to-School Program: Manos supplies new clothing, backpacks and grade-appropriate school supplies to more than 2,000 pre-K-5th grade children living with socioeconomic and educational risk factors, who would start school without these items if it weren't for our generous supporters and volunteers.
Needs StatementWe rely on your support for our programs that benefit our community. Manos is home to an 11-chair low cost dental center, has adult education classes for individuals to learn English, enhance their computer skills, study to become a US citizen and receive emergency food or clothing assistance. We serve over 25,000 individuals each year. Your donations will support our programs and help us maintain our low fee structure for dental services and adult education classes.
Your donations go a long way in positively impacting the lives of your neighbors in need.
