The fourth annual GAHSMTA was our biggest show yet and our Select Ensemble students have already begun rehearsing to make this year's show even BIGGER! Throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, 38 participating high schools in the Greater Austin area will vie for coveted awards as selected by a panel of arts professionals culminating in a Tony Awards-style ceremony to be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. We hope you'll be able to join us for the festivities!

Your gift through Amplify Austin helps pay for:

- Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards (GAHSMTA): Local high school students receive greater visibility and recognition for their outstanding performances and productions. This program shines a spotlight on arts education in the Greater Austin area.

- Summer Stock Austin (SSA) is a unique program in the US, where high school students work alongside college students and industry professionals to hone their craft. All participants learn both acting, technical and administrative skills during this six-week program. The final product is three fully-staged Broadway-style productions.

- College Audition Program (CAP): Prepares students for their college audition to get into a musical theater program. Students receive individual instruction and personalized training to ensure the best results.

-Texas Arts Project (TAP): Is a theater and film residential camp for middle school and high school students. Participants "deep dive" into their respective discipline and learn new skills. This program culminates in a film screening evening and a fully-staged production.
...Working at the Long Center, our students saw a theatre running with the utmost degree of professionalism. From the pit orchestra, choreographer, stage managers, sound technicians, stage hands, and riggers -- all the components worked together towards the common goal of making each performance excel. In our world of High School Theatre competition, it is a rare event which allows our students to interact with one other in such a positive and collaborative manner. Our students brought this energy back to our campus and it truly has spread through all of our work. At Round Rock High School we typically do a musical every other year, but as a direct result of GAHSMTA, we decided to produce a musical last fall, with high levels of enthusiasm from our students.

...I believe that the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards [at the Long Center] are truly a life-changing event for many students. It is an empowering, inspiring, and best of all, incredibly fun night. I think with the support of your organization, the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards can continue having an amazing impact on the Austin-area community. I want other students to feel the same passionate way that I felt doing the GAHSMTAs for many more years to come!
