Offer Hope for Healing

The Christi Center

It's hard to believe, but it has been almost 12 years since I became a newlywed and widow, both events happening within a few short weeks of each other. I had no idea how to process such a tragedy at the age of 27, and becoming a widow in my twenties made me feel isolated from my peers, since I had no frame of reference and didn't know how to discuss it or how to move forward.

I was blessed to receive support in my grief, and was matched with another young widow as I struggled to imagine my future. Knowing that I wasn't alone in my situation gave me comfort, and seeing the path this young woman took to cope and go on to have a second happy marriage and children gave me hope that I would find happiness again, too. I sometimes wonder where I would have been without this touchpoint in my life.

I have since been able to turn around and offer that hope and support to another young woman with a similar story. It has been a second blessing and a source of further healing to know that I can help someone else find their way along this path.

For this reason, I am raising funds through Amplify Austin for the Christi Center's grief support, and asking you to join me. Matching individuals to peers with similar losses is one of the ways the Christi Center supports children, teens and adults for as long as they need help. At the Christi Center, grief support services are free of charge and open to anyone who needs them.

By raising $500, we can make possible one year of grief support for one child, teen or adult.

If you've ever experienced the loss of a loved one, please consider honoring their memory with a donation to the Christi Center in their name during Amplify Austin's 24 hours of giving.
