Hill Country Community Ministries serves a 10 zip code area in western Williamson County & NW Travis Co. We serve families who have faced a crisis, those who need just a little bit of help because of loss of job, death of a spouse, high medical expense or living in poverty with food, clothing & other assistance like vision vouchers, dental, new shoes for children. So, what's new? We need to keep up with our vastly growing community. HCCM is serving one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. In 2017 we continued to see record numbers of new families receiving services, an overall INCREASE of 35%. HCCM went from serving approximately 1,200 individuals only two years ago to now nearly 2,000 people a month. Over 40% of those we serve are children. Hill Country Community Ministries has done such an AMAZING job expanded program services that Central Texas Food Bank has invested nearly $200,000 since late 2016 to date, expanding what we are currently doing in our community. HCCM now has four (4) Fresh Food Fridays (FFF), with at least four more added in Williamson County for 2018. FFF's takes fresh produce and food out to those under served areas to those who cannot get to us. HCCM was one of two food pantries in central Texas to receive the Starbuck Feeding America grant. HCCM rescues the end of the day Starbucks food from 28 location seven days a week. With this, HCCM has partnered with Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Meals-on-Wheels, Brighter Days food pantry and Reveal Resource Center. Because of the growth in people served and the expansion of our programs, HCCM saw a 35% increase in food distribution. We are soooo excited about the expansion, the growth and the support of all those who believe in us. Our Laces for Leander program added a "Stuff the Truck" event, where our local high schools filled trucks with shoes and raised over $500. Laces and our Stuff the Truck events collected and distributed over 800 pairs of brand new athletic shoes for students in our schools. The community outreach and support has been nothing short of phenomenal. This is extremely important for us to keep with the vastly growing need, helping those we serve.

Impact Statement

Hill Country Community Ministries has a vision to help meet basic human needs in the community. Pooling our resources, we set out to provide food, clothing & other assistance for people in crisis and those living in poverty, and to serve them with dignity and compassion in an atmosphere of neighbor helping neighbor.

We serve on average over 650 families a month. This is nearly 2,000 individuals, 40% of whom are children. In 2017, HCCM filled over 6,500 family food orders, distributing almost 670,000 pounds of food. This is a 35% increase in food distribution. That's over 40,700 MEALS each month! HCCM saw a DRAMATIC increase in the number of families served, an increase of 35%. We also assisted over 2,000 adults & children with clothing each year.

Needs Statement

Our community continues to grow at record setting numbers, food that does not get donated/collected will be purchased through our partnerships with Central Texas Food Bank as well as HEB & other local stores. HCCM saw an increase of 30% in the number of people served, nearly 2,000 people a month. We also saw a 35% increase in food distribution because of the expansion of Fresh Food Fridays and the new Starbucks Feeding America program. Monies raised through Amplify Austin "I Live Here, I Give Here" help us meet those needs.

We are also raising money for Laces for Leander, which will put new shoes on Leander and Lago Vista ISD students for the first day of school.

Our goal is $10,000 this year to support ALL of the HCCM's programs.... feeding those in need, our homeless, providing new shoes for students in our school districts, etc.
At a National Night Out event back in October, I was very new to the Executive Director position (only 2 days on the job). I received congratulatory comments from the Leander Fire Dept. Chief, Chief Gardner. He asked is there was anything he could do to help HCCM & my response was, "I have no idea, I just started my new job. What can you do?" After we both chuckled a moment, with a very genuine response, "Anything we can do to help feed our community during the holidays, makes our jobs easier during this time." (Oct. 2015) I nodded my head, with tears in my eyes, and couldn't have agreed more.

"I can't thank you enough for helping me. I recently become homeless & didn't know what to do! I was able to come & get food right away! I am so grateful! Porsha was extremely helpful & kind (which is what you need in this type of situation) and I was able to have gratitude even in this situation. God Bless all of you & THANK YOU! PS - thanks for the voucher to get my son some much needed shoes!" Joanne C (Aug. 2015)

"Hill County has always been a blessing to me. They're always kind with a true smile for me every time I'm here. They have blessed me with their generous time & always make sure I don't hungry or without proper clothing!" Kathie D. (Sept 2015)
