Mission Statement

Supporting seniors and adults with disabilities in Central Texas to live with dignity in their communities by providing them and their caregivers with essential individualized services.

We are celebrating our 35th Anniversary in 2017!

Family Eldercare serves more than 5,700 seniors and adults with disabilities in Travis AND Williamson Counties. We need your support to ensure that our mission is sustainable, and we remain one of the leading agencies on aging and supporting adults with disabilities for another 35 years! Your gift ensures that nobody is alone, regardless of age or disability.

Housing and Community Services - Your donation safeguards that low-income seniors and adults with disabilities remain safely housed, can manage their benefits, and do not fall prey to abuse, neglect or exploitation. Our Housing and Community Services services coordinators are on site at the 10 low-income housing properties, as well as our own Lyons Gardens. They are available to provide support to any resident or family member of a resident. They also provide wellness programs and a home bound phone call-in program called Lifetime Connections Without Walls (LCWW).

Summer Fan Drive - Running May 1 through August 31, the Summer Fan Drive distributes more than fans, it opens doors. In 2016, Family Eldercare distributed 6,261 fans to over 3,000 households. With every distribution, volunteers checked-in with recipients, ensuring our local medically fragile, seniors, and families with children were connected to valuable community resources they didn't know existed. In 2016 we connected over 600 households with dental programs, job training resources, caregiver services, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's support, and more. $15 provides one fan; $60 provides a family with fans; $600 provides TEN families with fans.

Counseling - For the third year in row, our In-Home Counseling program brought on more Licensed Clinical Social Workers to assist those needing home clinical services. Our clients are working through intense issues such as loss of a spouse or adult child, depression around debilitating and often life changing (home bound) medical issues, care giving for someone with dementia, and more. Our clients are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible for waivers of co-pays and deductibles.

Money Management - In 2016, Money Management received a record number of referrals, expanding the number of clients served to over 630+, managing 477 bank accounts. In 2013, Family Eldercare's Money Management was the only professional Fiduciary through the VA, and received a grant for $100,000 to start serving Veterans through this capacity. Entering into our fourth year with this grant, we are serving over 160 Veterans, ensuring they receive benefits, are managing their money well, paying bills, remaining housed, and safe from exploitation and abuse.

Guardianship - This service is a unique, un-duplicated niche that serves those who cannot advocate for themselves and are incapacitated to make their own decisions. In this program 15% suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury; 35% have Dementia; 30% have Intellectual Disabilities; and 20% have Mental Illness. Without Family Eldercare, many of these individuals would have no one to advocate for them, which would leave some of our most vulnerable citizens in jeopardy of being exploited, neglected, abused, homeless, or worse. Guardianship has predominately served wards in Travis county, but 2017 marks our second year serving those in Williamson country through a contract with the probate court.
