Mission Statement

To change the way the world defines and views disability by making profound, positive differences in peoples lives every day.

Physical activity is a crucial part of a healthy, happy, and independent life. But nearly half of all adult Americans living with disability get no aerobic physical activity, which translates to being three times more likely to have heart disease, stroke, diabetes, or cancer. Physical activity is also important for mental and emotional well-being, offering a chance to focus on ability rather than disability.

The Easterseals LIFE Center is about helping people to experience LIFE - Lifelong Improvement through Fitness and Education. Through recreational activity, education, programs, and research the Easterseals LIFE Center will support children and adults with disabilities on their journey toward independence.

The LIFE Center houses the Fit Ability Program, the Spinal and Neuro Recovery Program, and an Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility. For more information on any of our LIFE Center services, contact: (512) 615-6800 or LIFE@eastersealstx.org.

Impact Statement

By 2020, Easterseals Central Texas will be the recognized leader in services for people with disabilities, improving the lives of 20,000 people each year.

Needs Statement

Join Easterseals Central Texas as we champion children and adults living with disabilities regardless of their ability or life challenges as we work to ensure everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential. People with disabilities constitute the nation's largest minority group, and the only group any of us can become a member of at any time.

We have a vision of those we serve having access to support, programs and resources Easterseals Central Texas provides regardless of their ability to pay. These services include physical, occupational, and bilingual speech therapy, job training, job placement, computer technology education program, independent living, housing and more.

We currently serve 8,500 children and adults from birth to elderly and our goal is to grow our impact in the Central Texas community to serve 20,000 people each year by the year 2020.

"In the last year, I've gained strength, an improved attitude and confidence in myself. I hope to continue working hard at gaining function back." - Amber, client for 2 years

"The Life Center is a facility that has been an integral instrument in my gaining greater independence. I have more physical strength and can transfer on a daily basis. Working out here has also made me more aware of the social aspects of having a disability. I'm more proactive in reaching out to other people with disabilities and sharing my story in the hopes that I can help them on their road to recovery. My art has progressed over the years and I have a deeper confidence in my abilities." - Kemi, client for more than 6 years

"Easter Seals Central Texas Life Center means the opportunity to walk again. Without it I don't think I would be as far along as I am in my recovery." - Kevin, client for more than 4 years
We offer volunteer opportunities year-round through our special events, advocacy department and through our other programs serving children, families and individuals living with disabilities.

Together we can make a Difference

I think you know I was on a board of a small non-profit in Austin that helped people with spinal cord injuries. WONDERFUL organization that had a special gym outfitted for those in wheelchairs to help with mobility, and in some cases, even walk. Fortunately, they were absorbed by national non-profit, Easter Seals, who had the resources to expand the program. I am asking you to please help the organization raise their goal of $30,000 during Amplify Austin.

Support Easter Seals LIFE Center: Schedule a Donation Today

by Victor Martinez

Where can the disabled go to maintain their physical fitness? If you're lucky enough to live in Austin, Texas, you might try going to The Easter Seals Life Center. There they have weights of every type, a spin cycle, leg press machine, parallel bars and arm cycles. Machines that can tell you the distance and for how long, thigh machines, machines that you can pedal from a wheel chair, Universal Gym that simulates rowing and push-ups. There is an exercise for any conceivable strengthening. The best thing is there are people to assist you and make it all safe!

After my stroke, I was asking myself, "Where do I go from here?" I didn't have a clue. It's a good thing I had such qualified and concerned therapists and doctors encouraging me to keep up with therapy and stay as active as possible.

Still in a wheelchair in November 2012, I started visiting the St. David's Wheel Chair Fitness Center located in the Hancock Shopping Center. Last year, we moved a little farther north to become part of the Easter Seals LIFE Center on Cross Park Drive.

For this reason, I started a personal fundraiser for Amplify Austin, March 2, to help the Easter Seals LIFE Center reach its overall goal of $30,000. I have committed to raise $1000, and I cannot do it without the help of friends, relatives, and others like you.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to fund the free Fit Ability Gym, Spinal Cord and Neuro Recovery Program, and the Outpatient Rehab Facility. All of these programs are crucial to the well-being of disabled children and adults that Easter Seals LIFE Center serve.

Will you please schedule a donation of at least $20 or more? This year the St. David's Foundation is including Easter Seals Central Texas in their match. This means they will match donation dollars up to $1,000,000 across roughly 60 organizations Texas.

Thank you in advance for your donation to support disabled Austinites in their effort to maintain their fitness and well-being.
