Mission Statement

The mission of Dress for Success® is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Our vision is a world where women do not live in poverty; are treated with dignity and respect; and are strengthening their families and shaping their communities.

At Dress for Success Austin, the suit is only the beginning.

We also provide the following programs to help women enter and thrive in the workplace:

Job Searching Program - eight-week class to prepare women for the workplace.
Career Center - one-on-one help with resumes and interviews.
Professional Women's Group - job retention program.
Women2Women - mentors help women create and reach professional goals.
Financial Literacy - improving personal finances.

Impact Statement

In 2016, Dress for Success Austin served over 1,000 women from Travis, Hays, Williamson, Bastrop, Bell and Caldwell counties. Those services 9 pre- and post-employment programs designed to help women enter and succeed in the job market.

Needs Statement

$9,500 supports one month's operational expenses
$4,000 pays one month's rent
$2,500 operates the job retention program for one year
$1,000 supports two women for one year through all Dress for Success program
$375 supports one woman in the pre-employment class for one session
$100 buys basic toiletries for five women
$80 buys one plus-sized suit
$50 buys two pair of shoes, two new bras or three plus-sized blouses

Myra Powe Smith, who fled Hurricane Katrina with her two daughters and came to Austin:

"From the moment I entered the Dress for Success door, I remember smiling faces, hugs and handshakes. Volunteers were there and eager to help me with interview appropriate attire. I landed the job of my dreams with a pharmaceutical company. Today, I continue to participate in Dress for Success programs like the Professional Women's Group and Financial Literacy. With Dress for Success always in my cheering section and providing support, I have received four promotions and recognition for leadership and workmanship."

"Ever since attending my interview suiting at Dress for Success and then finding a job, I have been a loyal member of the Professional Women's Group. It is at the monthly PWG meetings that we are encouraged to learn, to success, and always be professional. Dress for Success Austin has become like a second home to me. As a veteran of the US Army, I learned during my years of service basic life skills but Dress for Success taught me to have hope."
Image Consultant
Image coach to the clients, suiting them for their job interviews or new careers while providing encouragement. Also assist with inventory maintenance, sorting through donations, and boutique upkeep.

Career Advocate
Assist clients in their job search by reviewing resumes, conducting mock interviews and providing general advice. Perform follow up calls to clients regarding their job search or career goals.

Office Administrator
Support with daily operations, including greeting clients, coordinating client appointments with volunteer schedules, answering phone and e-mail, receiving donations, writing thank you letters, and maintaining client files.

Support a client one-on-one over an 8-week period to help her meet her professional goals.
