Organizational Overview

Caritas of Austin
611 Neches Street
Austin, Texas 78701

Mission Statement

Caritas of Austin provides a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency.

For over 50 years, Caritas of Austin has served our most vulnerable neighbors when they do not have a stable place to call home. We help build wellbeing by providing people with safe housing, jobs, life skills, and food. Our goal is to end homelessness as we know it in Austin and to help others reach their full potential. This past year, Caritas of Austin was a leader in the achievement of "ending" veteran homelessness, placed over 500 people in jobs, and continued to increase services in north Austin at our Caritas North location. The past year has brought great uncertainty with regard to Caritas' 40-year history of resettling refugees who are fleeing persecution. Now more than ever we are relying on the community's support to ensure these services continue while federal funds are paused.

Impact Statement

Caritas of Austin supports hundreds of individuals and families each year who have no place to call home. This year our Community Kitchen will serve 80,000 nutritious lunches. Our Pantry will provide 40,000 meals in take-home groceries. We will support more than 500 people on their path out of homelessness. Last year, 95% of people in our Supportive Housing program remained stable and did not return to homelessness. Caritas of Austin staff will help place over 500 individuals in jobs and will offer more than 1,000 education classes on topics like money management and job readiness. We will also continue to resettle refugees, in whatever capacity we are able to do so.

"I became so independent and strong during my time with Caritas. I learned to love being with myself." - Nanette
"When I talk about Caritas, I cannot find words. They are our new family. They picked us up from the airport and took us to our new home they had arranged for us. There was food, beds, sheets, clothes…everything we needed. And they helped cover our rent initially and connect us to other local agencies." - Desire
"Without someone like Caritas to help me in those first months, who knows where I would be. Helping us with a place to live and getting started in a new life - that goes a long way." - Sergio
"They are all wonderful. They have given me much advice and support and helped me get a job I hoped for. All of their services help people get ahead." - Onel
"I can't say enough about Caritas. You all have changed my world. You have been my rock." - Billy
"This program helps you become the person you were before, and that's priceless." - Lashanya
