Derived from the Spanish word for progress, AVANCE-Austin provides innovative parent education and family support services to low-income, Spanish speaking families from at-risk neighborhoods. During our free 9-month intensive Parent-Child Education program, we offer dual-generational services such as: early childhood development, parenting education, community resources, educational toy making and English as a Second Language classes, as well as monthly home visits. Children under 3 years old gain the skills to be kindergarten ready, and parents learn to be their child's first teacher.

Thanks to your generous support, AVANCE-Austin programming reached nearly 400 parents and their young children last program year:
- 130 parents and 150 children served during our Parent-Child Education Program
- 42 parents and 48 children attended the summer program, H-E-B Read 3
- 11 parents and 11 children served through the home-based Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

This year, we are celebrating 20 years of serving the Austin community. We couldn't do it without YOU! Thank you for making our success possible and for helping more families in our community have Futures So Bright!

- 90% of AVANCE children were screened for developmental delays and referrals were made if necessary

Needs Statement

Help AVANCE make Futures So Bright for even more children and families in your community!

How YOU can make a difference:
$5,000 - Provides 9 months of monthly home visits to 6 families
$3,500- Gifts a scholarship for an entire family to participate in the Parent-Child Education Program so that they can break the cycle of trans-generational poverty.
$1,500 - Sponsors a child to participate in the Parent-Child Education Program for a full year, making a long term impact on that child's quality of life.
$1,000 - Allows 3 parents the supplies and instruction to create 17 educational toys during the program year. These toys will instill a love of learning through play, while teaching concepts such as shapes, colors, emotions, and gross motor skills.
$500 - Ensures age-appropriate school supplies for 20 children during our 9 month Parent-Child Education Program.
$250 - Provides professional development scholarships for our early childhood and parenting educators so they can learn state of the art teaching strategies.
$100 - For every 25 people who donate $100, you've helped one child or sponsored one mother for the entire 9 month program.
$50 - Funds one day of breakfast and lunch at AVANCE for each family, ensuring that even those who are food insecure are able to participate fully.
At our end-of-program graduation ceremony, brave mothers from each of our 5 cohorts deliver speeches to their graduating class. Here are some excerpts from speeches over the years:

"AVANCE changed our lives. We stopped being the moms that did many things wrong and now, after having learned through our parenting class, we're able to start being more caring and loving mothers. Not only that, we also learned how to be more respectful to our sons and daughters and with our spouses. AVANCE guided us to be able to educate our children in a better way and to show love when correcting them. Now I know how to talk to my children and how to calm myself if I feel overwhelmed. I now better understand my child's behavior and I try to use the tools that I learned here so that I'm able to better my relationship with my children."
-Juana, 2017 AVANCE-Austin graduate

"When we started this program, we felt insecure, nervous, and fearful. We did not know if we would be able to finish this cycle, especially when we heard our children cry so much. However, thanks to AVANCE's efficient staff, the support of the instructors, the home visits, our children's teachers, and the program itself, we are now aware that this was only a phase because those feelings we had when we started are now gone. Now, we realize how important we are as parents in the lives of our children. We realize that it was just a matter of getting started. Because now we feel confident in ourselves. We know that we have the experience, and above all, the appropriate information to prepare our children for a better future."
-Elva, 2017 AVANCE-Austin graduate

"AVANCE was a great educational experience that helped me embrace my skills as a mom. Family time has become my number one priority. I wish to thank the teachers and administrators at AVANCE and all the kind and generous people that make AVANCE classes possible. You have changed our lives forever."
-Leslie, 2016 AVANCE-Austin graduate

"[AVANCE-Austin] has helped me to learn more about how to take care of my children: Either in the house, taking care of them while sick, and to be a better mother overall. As for myself, it helped me value who I am as a woman. In the program, I enjoy sharing with the woman in the group and the toy-making activities. I am happy to be with AVANCE-Austin. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn so many things."
-Carolina, 2015 AVANCE-Austin graduate; Translated from Spanish to English

"I would like to ask you on behalf of all the women and families that have gone through AVANCE or will go through AVANCE, that you continue your support of this program. What may seem very little to you can be life-changing for us. From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely say thank you."
-Teresa, 2014 AVANCE-Austin graduate

"I am very thankful for AVANCE. I learned how to get more involved in my children's school, how to obtain free resources for my family, and the importance of reading. Now I dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to read to my children. I learned the value of family time, giving more hugs and love to my children. I have no words to thank you for so much support."
-Maria, 2013 AVANCE-Austin graduate

Toy Making Preparation: Our toy making class is one the most unique things about the AVANCE curriculum.
