Mission Statement

The Austin Humane Society's mission is to provide comprehensive, humane, and life-saving animal services, transforming the lives of animals and those who love them.

As the largest no-kill, non-profit pet adoption center in Austin, the Austin Humane Society is dedicated to:

- Saving Austin's homeless cats and dogs
- Educating our community about responsible pet ownership
- Reducing pet over-population

As Austin's longest standing no-kill shelter, the Austin Humane Society (AHS) has been proudly providing lifesaving services to our community's animals for 65 years. Each year, we continue to see an increase in the number of animals we serve.

2016 proved to be another successful year for AHS! Some of our biggest accomplishments from the year included:

- Finding homes for 3,843 homeless animals through our adoption program
- Microchipping 3,648 animals, ensuring they can always find their way home
- Caring for 919 teeny tiny bottle baby kittens during Kitten Season
- Engaging over 600 active volunteers in over 90,000 hours of volunteer service
- Providing support to 29 animal rescue organizations across Texas

Every dollar donated to AHS allows us to provide comprehensive, humane, and life-saving support to the animals in our care. As we celebrate our 65th anniversary this year, our goal is to raise $65,000 through Amplify Austin in celebration of saving lives for 65 years!

Impact Statement

For 65 years, AHS has been unleashing hope for homeless animals in our community. AHS's life-saving programs find animals homes, serve animals and people in times of crisis, prevent future homelessness and overpopulation though spay and neuter surgery, and engage the community to be a part of the solution.

Needs Statement

As Austin continues to grow, AHS has seen a rise in the number of animals that need and deserve excellent medical care, temporary shelter, and loving homes.

Every dollar that you donate to the Austin Humane Society makes a significant difference in the lives of homeless animals. Your support provides lifesaving medical care, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchips, soft and warm beds, qualify food and toys, exercise, training, affection, and temporary shelter while the animals in our care wait for their forever homes. Your support and generosity transforms our capacity to save more animals, especially those who have been abused, neglected, and cast aside.

It doesn't take much to make an impact on the animals in our care. A small amount truly goes a LONG way:

$100 provides total medical care for a shelter animal
$50 provides a spay/neuter surgery for both a dog AND cat in AHS's care
$20 provides a night of shelter
$10 provides a registered microchip

"This was our first time adopting, and I'm very glad to have done so at AHS. I spoke with a few staff members/volunteers and could tell that each person genuinely loved their work and truly cared for each animal in the facility. Great place!"
- Melina S., Adopter

"I have been a volunteer with AHS since March 2009, after being a financial supporter for many years. I now train new volunteers in the CAT program, and think that AHS is one of the best shelters anywhere. The staff is incredible, the volunteers amazing, and the animals, well, of course the animals are so very deserving of all we do for them. I am so proud to be part of this incredible group. I love helping people find the perfect pet, and love helping the animals find forever homes. Hooray AHS!!"
- Susan S., Volunteer

"We left there today with a new family member. All the staff and volunteers were helpful and friendly. Dogs looked well-cared for and in nice surroundings! We've been to several shelters in the last few weeks visiting dogs and this was the best place! I highly recommend!"
- Hope H., Adopter

"Many thanks to you all for helping out other shelters. We are so thankful to have the connection from you in our small town. Because of you all we are able to save more dogs."
- Patsy, Rescue

"This place is truly fantastic. The people working here go far above and beyond their minimum duty and make sure the animals are taken great care of. They eliminated the stress of adding a new family member and made it very enjoyable! We've adopted both of our dogs from here and would never go anywhere else in the future!"
- Adopter

AHS loves our volunteers and could not serve over 11,000 homeless animals each year without them! Our volunteers support our adoption program, walking dogs and socializing cats. To learn more about volunteering with AHS, please visit:
