"Working with The Arc of the Capital Area throughout my college career as a member of the Texas Cowboys has been such a heartening, moving, and inspiring experience for me personally. By serving as the Harvest Moon Chair alongside Preston Martin, Max McKamy, and Hunter Halpin, I have had the privilege of seeing the direct impact of The Arc in the lives of so many individuals in the greater Austin area. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to give back to such a great cause that does so much good for others." - Jake Greenstein, Member of the Texas Cowboys
John is a bright 16-year-old high school junior in Austin, Texas. John and his mom, Sue, contacted The Arc of the Capital Area's Juvenile Justice Program last year. He has an autism diagnosis and was performing sensory-seeking behaviors that the school interpreted as defiance. He is physically imposing, and his school responded to his behaviors through physical restraint, including placing John in an isolation room for three days. After repeated negative attempts to negotiate with the school, Sue called The Arc. One of our case managers was assigned to work with John. Like many teenagers, John peppers his expressions with heartfelt hyperbole, but there is a phrase that seems simply heartfelt. At the end of his writings about his school experiences, John says, "I bless The Arc with all my heart and with thanks that goes on for trillions and quadrillions of miles thru the universe so that all the life in space can find it." - Client of the Juvenile Justice Services Program
Volunteers are paired with clients and work with various media including paint, ceramics, photography, and beads to create unique pieces of art. After becoming familiar with the studio, volunteers can teach their own art lesson. Art background is NOT necessary!

Our corporate volunteer package can be customized based upon the number of volunteers and volunteer preference. We can plan your time with us based on art experience, working directly with clients, assessing clients ability with social media and technological literacy, providing learning opportunities within our organization, preparing canvases, filling paint bottles or assisting with displaying artwork for upcoming art shows. We welcome you and your colleagues to help us continue to build this community with team unity.
