Mission Statement

The YMCA of Austin is committed to making sure that EVERYONE, regardless of age, gender, race, faith, ability level, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our mission is to put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for ALL.

We fulfill our mission by focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to promote strong families, character values, youth leadership, community development and international understanding.

We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.

That's why at the Y strengthening community is our cause, and our programs are always based on the needs and interests of our communities.

Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in the nation for children ages 1 to 4 years of age?

In Texas, drowning is the second leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. In 2016 alone, more than 100 Texas children died because of drowning.

This is where YOU and the YMCA of Austin can play a big role in changing these statistics.

Did you also know that formal swim lessons can reduce a child's risk of drowning by 88 percent? 88 percent! Think of the lives that can be saved through public education coupled with water safety instruction.

In 2016, the YMCA of Austin provided water safety and swim instruction to more than 10,000 area children, including more than 2,000 area first-graders who receive free instruction through our Project SAFE program.

The Y provides financial assistance to remove barriers from accessing swim instruction for ALL children, regardless of their background or economic circumstances. YOUR DONATIONS MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

Impact Statement

Each year during our Annual Giving Campaign, nearly 4,000 members of our community donate to the YMCA of Austin to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, faith, ability, income or background is given the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We are truly a place where one can be, belong and become.

Donations to the YMCA of Austin give the gift of the Y experience to those who need it most. Among the many ways your gift makes an impact in the lives of others, it is never more apparent than when it comes to safety around water. Every dollar helps prevent drownings by teaching a child to swim. Every dollar helps to save a life.

"The parents were grateful to have this experience for their children, an experience many cannot afford. Some of our parents are non-swimmers so they also felt that without this program their children may not have been able to go swimming this summer." - Lisa L., teacher of Project SAFE first-grade class

"I could see their self confidence in the water grow every single day." - Patricia G., YMCA parent

"This program is so important, because many of these children aren't exposed to swimming at an early age." - Kristy J., principal at participating Project SAFE school
