Legacy Camp is a five-day, four-night camping retreat with the goal of fostering the next generation of conservation leaders. These young, enthusiastic, and diverse leaders (ages 18 - 29) will attend sessions on leadership styles, community organizing, and how to tell their story while camping on the pristine Shield Ranch in Western Travis County.
After camp these Natural Leaders will use their peer to peer support network to bring about change in their communities and connect children and their families with the outdoors. During the year these young leaders will be supported by the Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin and its 41 member organizations.

Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center is rooted in a 40 year history of nurturing a pristine site and encouraging a connection with nature by providing high-quality environmental education for schoolchildren and the public. In 2016, more than 17,000 visitors hiked through our 76-acre Preserve to be awed by our dramatic limestone grotto, waterfall and cave. Our leadership in the Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin ensures that from an early age, kids learn to feel comfortable in nature. And that their connection to the natural world turns into an essential part of their daily lives, both as kids and later as adults. Our partnership with El Ranchito summer camp continues our mission and serves as a shining example of connecting youth to nature. Ours is a complete approach to advocating for the right of children to be outside more often.
This year our work with the Natural Leaders Network of Austin will help young conservationists find their voice in the conservation movement. This next generation of environmental stewards will help protect our public lands, our wildlife, and our water by reconnecting their peers to the natural world.
Help us foster the next generation of environmental stewards. Every donation helps. For example:
$25 Provides Lunch for two Natural Leaders at Legacy Camp.
$50 Purchases a Legacy Camp Backpack for one Natural Leader
$250 Provides a tent for 3 Natural Leaders at Legacy Camp.
$500 Sends one Natural Leader (18-29) to Legacy Camp at no cost.

"We want to have a generation of people who care about nature and who are involved in creating the polices that will save it. That is why I went to Legacy Camp."

Day of Giving for Legacy Campby Shelby Ward
Help us Amplify Austin and Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center
Starting at 6 pm on March 2, you can be a part of a 24-hour period of giving and help raise much-needed funds for Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center.
Founded in 1976, the mission of Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center is to inspire people to develop a lifelong practice of enjoying and protecting nature.
We accomplish this through educational programs, collaborative alliances, and conservation of our beautiful 76-acre preserve.
Funding from the Amplify Austin Day of Giving will be used to support our efforts to develop the next generation of environmental leaders at Legacy Camp 2017.
I am fortunate enough to be a part of this wonderful organization and I hope you will join me in supporting their cause!
