Mission Statement

The mission of the Leander ISD Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) is to provide resources to support innovation, enrichment, and equity in pursuit of academic excellence within the Leander Independent School District community.

LEEF supports its mission through three main program initiatives: Foundations for Learning focusing on early literacy, Enriching Great Teaching through innovative teaching grants and professional development, and College Ready, College Bound to build a college and career-ready culture among all students.
Leander ISD currently serves more than 36,000 students and is expected to grow by another 20,000 students in the next 10 years. With state funding for public education continuing to shrink, LEEF's role in providing additional resources for teachers and students in our district is increasingly important. Please join us in this critical mission.

Impact Statement

LEEF provides resources and services to support all students in Leander ISD. LEEF supports its mission through three main program initiatives: Foundations for Learning focusing on early literacy, Enriching Great Teaching through innovative teaching grants and professional development, and College Ready, College Bound to build a college and career-ready culture among all students.
Foundations for Learning: during the 2013-2014 school year LEEF distributed over 10,000 books to LISD students during family literacy nights, Title 1 family events, summer reading initiatives, backpack programs, and gifting projects.
Enriching Great Teaching: last school year LEEF was able to fund 25 innovative classroom learning grants, totaling $33,000 and benefiting more than 30,000 LISD students.
College and Career Readiness: The district high school dual credit program provides students an opportunity to take free college courses through ACC - this program does not cover the cost of college textbooks. LEEF provides all LISD high schools with need based textbook scholarships to students enrolled in these dual credit courses. This school year LEEF has given $5,000 in dual credit textbook scholarships.
Similar to textbook scholarships, LEEF also provides advanced placement exam scholarships. Last year LEEF provided $10,000 to LISD to cover the costs of these AP exams.
Additionally, LEEF pays for a college coach at three different LISD high school campuses. These college coaches work with high school counselors to support the entire college admission process.

Needs Statement

LEEF provides support the entire LISD school district. LISD currently serves over 36,000 students and is expected to grow by another 20,000 students in the next 10 years. We are excited that each year more students enroll in dual credit high school courses and complete advanced placement courses - however, this requires additional support in resources. Additionally, we currently have a college coach in three of our 5 LISD high schools. It is our goal to have a college coach in each LISD high school.

$92 covers the cost of one Advanced Placement (AP) exam
$100 purchases 50 reading books
$150 buys a college textbook for a LISD student enrolled in a dual credit course
$500 allows a teacher to attend a professional development conference
$600 pays for an elementary music class to attend the Austin Symphony for Young People
$1,000 helps a school robotics team compete in local tournaments
$4,000 provides one LISD high school with a college coach
$5,000 will provide an entire grade level or subject area the resources to implement an innovative program for increasing student development

"Because of LEEF's generous donation, our campus was able to give a minimum of five books to each of our economically disadvantaged students in PreK through fifth grade.  This donation will help ensure that our students will continue to read over the summer and will not experience the "summer slide" so many students experience when school resumes in August."

"We are so excited about the College Coach gave to us through LEEF. LISD high school students are so fortunate to be given this resource and the need is great. We cannot meet the needs of all of our students who are college bound. The sheer numbers are overwhelming, so this added support will allow a more personal approach to students who want to explore 4 year year option and go get it! Thank you so much!"

"Thank you LEEF so very much for providing us with the funds in an effort to be able to take care of more of our ACC dual credit students. This will allow us to be able to purchase textbooks for those students who are on free or reduced lunch, or simply don't have the funds to purchase books for their classes, and create a working library for our future students. As you know, starting college classes early contributes greatly to college completion. Thanks again for supporting us with this grant!"
