Highland Lakes SPCA Add to Favorites

Highland Lakes SPCA is a no-kill, nonprofit canine shelter, rescuing abandoned dogs in Central Texas since 1999. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and secure loving and healthy "forever" homes for homeless dogs. We're committed to providing complete medical, behavioral and socialization skills so our rescues are fully prepared to receive their new families, for as long as it takes. Our commitment to no-kill is steadfast, but our love for dogs comes naturally, and we won't stop until every dog finds a home!

We've been operating our 2015 kennel facility for almost three years, and we couldn't be more pleased! It makes us so happy that dogs at our facility receive the benefits of outdoor play and exercise during the day, but come into the safety and security of a kennel building at night. HLSPCA is a 24x7 operation with an onsite caretaker. Our founders and visionaries are eager to expand capacity, eager to engage more programs where we put dogs into service for Central Texans who need that unexplained companionship, that unconditional love that only a canine can offer. But we are wise to know that it takes a lot of hard work to achieve these mighty goals. So we're constantly looking inward and outward, consulting fellow non-profits and professionals in the for-profit worlds so we can make HLSPCA a bigger, better service organization for Central Texans. So what's new? Well, we're changing a lot inside, but on the outside we're still the same HLSPCA - intaking and adopting homeless dogs, holding adoption events and fundraisers, participating in community service and outreach. You're just gonna see more of us because...we're growing and getting better!

Impact Statement

At HLSPCA we intake more than 110 dogs annually, many of whom are hours away from euthanasia. We make sure all our dogs are spay/neutered, micro-chipped, receive full compliment of required (and more) vaccinations, and heart-worm preventative, before any dog can be adopted. Working with like-minded non-profits and local veterinarians, we reach into our community and offer Sponsor Spay/Neuter programs with the goal of keeping pets and people together forever, so no pet will ever have to be surrendered to a shelter. In 2017, HLSPCA helped 24 Hurricane Harvey dogs relocating to Central Texas to receive spay/neuter surgeries and medical care. In addition, HLSPCA helped pets of 43 families in our immediate region who could not afford these life-saving medical services. HLSPCA is a presence in our community as we fund raise with our business partners and area patrons, hosting many fun events like "BarkAtTheArt", "Woofstock" and our annual golf tournament, "Putts4Pups." Needs Statement

HLSPCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group which relies solely on the generosity of the community of donors for monetary and volunteer support. We enjoy small funding from local nonprofits, such as the Highland Lakes Service League, PEC and PEC-Charities and other small grants. HLSPCA is deeply grateful for these grantors for the funding we receive. We receive no financial assistance from the national SPCA (ASPCA) organization, contract services, local government funding or any tax base. Thanks to your tax-deductible contributions, we can continue providing the high quality medical care and socialization that these animals desperately need and certainly deserve. Medical care for rescued dogs requires constant care, so we keep a needs list on our website, www.hlspca.org, where our Wish List of essential canine products can be found, and are always in need because they are consumed immediately. We walk dogs Monday mornings, the staff is friendly and always full of great stories from the week before, the shelter and dog runs are spotless, and the barking, greeting and tail wagging with each new day puts a smile on your face!"

Matching Funds Description

If we work together to raise $15,000 in donations during Amplify Austin this year, Highland Lakes SPCA has a very generous donor who will give us another $10,000. Just think of how many more lost dogs we can save from municipal kill shelters, save from abandonment, save from loneliness, constant fear and a world of uncertain endings. Help us, help them. The innocence of animal's lives heightens our sense of rescue and inspires us to be their protector. Sometimes you have to dream the impossible to see it someday becoming a reality. Our mission of rescue is emboldened by the vision of national animal rescue organizations such as Best Friend's Animal Society that dare to say out loud, "WE CAN SAVE THEM ALL."
An anonymous funder has offered a $25,000 matching grant to be distributed among all participating animal care and services organizations on Amplify Austin Day. These nonprofit organizations will receive funds on a pro-rata basis. Each nonprofit will receive matching funds based on their total funds raised on Amplify Austin Day.
We have many volunteer opportunities at the Highland Lakes SPCA - from direct hands-on socialization, playing with and walking dogs, to helping with fundraising events, to working adoption events. Our area adoption events ensure that our dogs are seen out in public, because that is how they get adopted! We also welcome those with special skills, like the avid photographer who can capture the love of dogs and our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating and finding forever homes for dogs in Central Texas. Whether you can help once in a while or once a week, we need you! Please contact us today for more information on how you can help us help more dogs. We will match your interests and skill set with the volunteer activities that you'll enjoy the most.
