Glass Half Full Theatre: Puppetry and Physical Theatre of Objects & Ideas
Glass Half Full Theatre makes original performances that address the monumentous issues faced by humans (and animals) around the world, and we are committed to doing so with humor and thoughtful optimism. Over the last five years in Austin, we've tackled climate change, women's rights, gentrification, animal rights, & the border wall. (Orchid Flotilla, One There Were Six Seasons, The Missionary Position, Simple Sundries, Petra and the Wolf, and Don Quixote de la Redo).
Our next project focuses on trash and ecosystems. We are teaming up with Polly Mermaid to create a hilarious and poignant stage show that features Polly Mermaid, a hybrid mermaid mutant created by radioactive pollution, and her cadre of sea-animal puppets (made out of trash), in the swirling trash gyre of the Pacific. We will have both adult and kid versions of the show.
We have an opportunity to workshop this piece in Chapala, Mexico, in the state of Jalisco in June 2017. Glass Half Full Theatre will travel to Jalisco to workshop our newest creation, Polly Mermaid Stageshow, featuring Glass Half Full Theatre performer Indigo Rael with a cast of puppeteers. We are fundraising for to cover expenses and stipends for this workshop, so that we can return with new work to share in Austin later in the year.
