Dream a Dream strives to bring the healing power of horses to those with special needs and works with area agencies to make riding dreams a possibility. DaDTH is expanding its program with the addition of another instructor and new rider evaluations on a weekly basis. Since last year, two new horses have been added to the herd of loving therapy horses. DaDTH is also involved in a research project investigating how therapeutic horseback riding improves the social behavior of individuals with austism. It is our dream to help provide research evidence on the amazing connection between horses and humans and the healing it brings.

In addition, we are ready to publish a book about one of our therapy horses named Gracie and want to make this the springboard to a literacy project. The book will also be implemented in a social skills program for individuals with autism that is facilitated by an ABA therapist. Funds raised during the Amplilfy Austin campaign will make our dreams of helping others enjoy the wonderful world of horses a reality. Thank you so much for your support of our dream!

Impact Statement

Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship offers therapeutic horseback riding programs for children and adults. We are a PATH member center as well as a licensee of SpiritHorse. Our motto is "all who come here are able. We should not dwell on our weaknesses, instead we should strengthen our ability to overcome them."

Brenda McCall, the Executive Director, is also a doctoral candidate in Applied Behavior Analysis at Texas Tech University. She has completed research on the effects of therapeutic riding and is currently working on qualitative research to show the impact on social skill development of individuals with autism by showing how cortisol levels are reduced when individuals participate in therapeutic riding sessions. The implications of this research can only further substantiate the impact of therapeutic horseback riding on the lives of those with special needs.

Last year alone, 60+ riders come to DADTH between regular sessions and our summer camp and out of those, 1 rider spoke for the first time in his life, 1 rider was able to walk without their wheelchair and 2 riders went on and competed at the State Special Olympics competition and won numerous medals.

DADTH is an all volunteer center! All monies raised go right back into supporting and expanding our program. Your generosity is what keeps DADTH going year after year!

Needs Statement

DaDTH is growing leaps and bounds. With the combination of equine assisted therapy and the application of behavior analytic principles, individuals with special needs are able to achieve goals that were once only a dream. With our unique program comes a great need for additional resources and equipment to support riders. DaDTH is committed to serving the community and bringing the healing power of horses to those with special needs.

DaDTH is an all volunteer organization! Through the support and the generosity of local businesses that hold fundraisers in our honor, we are making a difference in the lives of those with special needs. Amplify Austin plays a key role in DaDTH's yearly funding and we are so thrilled to be a part of this exciting event. Appeals to our scholarship fund to provide services to those with limited resources is an ongoing need. In addition, in order to further develop our literacy program and social skills program for individuals with autism, your contributions are so greatly appreciated!

We so appreciate any support you can be to a program that is so dear to all involved.
"Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship is a home away from home for my son. He looks forward to every opportunity he has to ride. He loves spending time at the farm because he feels secure, he is proud of his accomplishments, and he feels loved. We are grateful to Brenda and her great team of volunteers!" Colleen Jones, Parent of a Rider

"Initially, it was a requirement for a class I was taking, but it was so much fun, I have continued to go on Saturdays mornings and help! I get to be a part of this wonderful experience as the children immerse themselves in the whole atmosphere of the ranch. It's completely out in the country, surrounded by trees and wind and sky. The children come dressed in their cowboy boots and are ready to mount their preferred horse, and friend. When I drive away from the ranch every Saturday that I'm there, I'm always so very glad that I went, because money can't buy the warmth and joy I feel as a result of the time I have spent with Brenda, the children, and the other people who chose to give their time to this worthwhile endeavor." Lisa Braun McGuire, DADTH volunteer

"Recently, I began volunteering at DADTH and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I'm honored to have the opportunity to spend time at an organization clearly making a difference in the lives of their riders. The Executive Director, Brenda McCall, is such a kind, caring, and knowledgeable leader. Brenda invokes a sense of humor into each rider's session along with ensuring their safety, comfort, and progress. Brenda goes above and beyond to present an enjoyable and interactive experience for each rider." Pamela Peckham, DADTH Saturday Volunteer

"My daughter loves riding at Dream a Dream! It has given her so much self-confidence and pride in herself. She is a totally different child thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers who help each week and most of all, to her horse Elsa, that is a true angel." Debra Powell, Parent of a Rider
