Impact Statement

The Conservancy will contribute to the environmental, educational, recreational, historical and cultural well-being of this beloved treasure of our community.

The Conservancy's For the Love of the Springs Campaign focuses on the following projects:

The rehabilitation of the historic Barton Springs Pool Bathhouse
The creation of a Visitor Education Center for Zilker Park.
Educational Programming focused on the rich environmental, recreational, historical and cultural story of Barton Springs and Zilker Park

Needs Statement

The Barton Springs Bathhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated Historic Landmark by the City of Austin and State of Texas. Plans include rehabilitating the building to its original splendor, restoring the rotunda and dressing areas, as well as making the facilities usable for modern needs. The rehabilitated Bathhouse will also be infused with environmental education.

The Conservancy envisions a world class Visitor Education Center for Zilker Park with an integrated education experience at the historic Barton Springs Bathhouse. The Visitor Education Center will welcome, orient and guide Austinites and visitors to the many amenities of Zilker Park, serving as the unifying element of Austin's most highly-used and iconic park while also providing myriad opportunities for environmental, cultural, historical and community health education.

We are excited to be further developing our educational programs! Our programmatic goals focus on the education of the rich environmental, recreational, historical and cultural story of Barton Springs and Zilker Park. Educational efforts includes our quarterly educational speaker series, Deep Dives, and the development of an Environmental Leadership Program for young girls and underserved youth.
"Barton Springs is what makes your heart sing about Austin, and it always has." - Luci Baines Johnson, Honorary Campaign Chair

To me Barton Springs is a real refuge. A place to immerse yourself in all the beauty that Austin has to offer. Join me in supporting one of Austin's great treasures. -Nikki Graham, Austin Market President, Bank of America

"When I heard about the formation of the Barton Springs Conservancy I was compelled to help because, like many Austinites, being able to swim and hang out at "the springs" has been such a big part of my life. I learned to swim there, took dates to Barton Springs in college, watched my baby daughter peacefully nap under those big old cottonwood trees, and to this day, join with all of the other polar bears to welcome each New Year with a dip in the delightfully frigid waters each January 1st. Nowadays I enjoy watching others do those same exact things, each new generation joining along with the rest of us. It's a never ending string, a circle unbroken. I want the same for every future generation of folks lucky enough to live, work, and play in Austin. I know you do too. Why don't you join Karen and I in supporting the Barton Springs Conservancy and let's make it happen."- Ray Brimble, One Skye Foundation

"The Springs inspire so much passion in our community because of its beauty, environmental value, and wonderful atmosphere, and this is an opportunity for Austinites to pitch in and help take care of our beloved Springs." Mike Cannatti, Board President of Barton Springs Conservancy
