The Breast Cancer Resource Center is a place to ask your questions, explore your options, and connect with a diverse community of survivors, lifers, and thrivers who can relate in a way no one else can. For more than 20 years, BCRC has been dedicated to supporting and improving the lives of those touched by breast cancer. BCRC remains the ONLY organization in Central Texas to focus its services solely on individuals facing breast cancer.

Through generous community support, all programs and services are offered free of charge to anyone affected by breast cancer. BCRC strives to embody understanding, preserve dignity, and always see the woman as well as the disease. We believe no one should face breast cancer alone.

BCRC's goal is to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our community. In 2017, we saw a 23% increase in new clients and we expect the trend to continue 2018. Our Patient Navigators spent over 10,500 hours providing 1:1 guidance, education and assistance to women seeking help with the life-threatening challenges of breast cancer.

BCRC facilitates 15 face to face support circles every month to meet the unique needs of our clients; including circles for our metastatic clients, those 45 and younger, Survivors and Spanish speaking.

A breast cancer diagnosis is life changing and even when treatment ends, BCRC continues to be a supportive lifeline to healing - physically, mentally and emotionally.

Impact Statement

Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) is a nonprofit organization providing guidance, education, and assistance to thousands of local women whose lives have been disrupted by breast cancer.

Founded in 1995, BCRC began as a volunteer-staffed helpline and a single support group. Today, in addition to being survivors, BCRC's Certified Patient Navigators are trained support professionals and experts in where to go, what to do next, and how to keep a woman moving forward through diagnosis, treatment, and beyond. We serve more than 1,900 women annually, offering personalized guidance, robust educational opportunities, and several financial and personal assistance programs. All of it - free of charge - to the client.

Needs Statement

Patient Navigation

BCRC is committed to ensure that the next woman in Central Texas who hears "you have breast cancer" has the guidance, education and assistance she needs to during one of the most difficult experiences of her life.

BCRC Patient Navigators, all survivors themselves, understand how overwhelming a breast cancer diagnosis can be. A Patient Navigator understands breast cancer can affect every aspect of a woman's life, including her family, friends, jobs, children, and finances. We help chart a course that will connect these moving pieces into a manageable plan by assessing a woman's unique barriers for her to understand her treatment and to successfully complete her treatment. Breast cancer is a complex disease. Understanding a diagnosis and then deciding on treatment can be overwhelming and frightening. Research shows lay navigators help patients deal with fears relating to treatment. They help foster trust of the health care system and help overcome barriers to complete treatment. In essence, a Patient Navigator allows patients to focus on their treatment and recovery instead of the overwhelming details that can cause stress and anxiety.

Our patient navigators are able to meet their clients where it is most convenient for them whether it is in a doctor's office, in a coffee shop or in our office. They can provide support face-to-face, over the phone, through text or emails. Because we are not bound by bricks and mortar, we can help our clients regardless of who their provider is or where they are receiving treatment. If a client changes providers, our patient navigators can stay with them.

Your support through Amplify Austin will ensure that our dedicated and trained patient navigators can continue to stand beside her through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and beyond.
"The BCRC has provided so many services to me, free of charge, and that's incredible. What has been the most special to me has been having the opportunity to connect with fellow patients, survivors, lifers and thrivers who are going through the same things as me. Together, we ask questions, we find answers and we build the best support network any woman undergoing treatment for breast cancer could ever hope for. The BCRC is at the core of bringing us all together." -Claire Spera, BCRC client

"The concept of family doesn't even begin to describe the intimate trust and connection one experiences through the BCRC. The world of hope, love, information and experience of people who have or have had what you have will open up to you. Please call. You will be much happier you did." - Jacquie Roberts, BCRC client

"BCRC is an invaluable resource with the ability to evaluate my patients in order to connect them to local resources and help them navigate between providers. BCRC Navigators make sure my clients are informed consumers of healthcare, have access to support services as needed, and have a trusted, educated, experienced resource to help them through the process."
- Dr. Debra Patt, Texas Oncology
